Elaine Mellor

Managing Director

My Story

Elaine has a proven track record of working in start-up branches. With over 40 years’ experience within the Health and Social Care profession, Elaine has managed branches, delivering up to 5000 hours of good quality care per week. In 2016 and 2017 Elaine was awarded the Great British Care Award for Registered Manager of the year.

Elaine began her career in 1978 working as an Auxiliary Nurse in the NHS for 12 years and quickly realised caring was her passion. Subsequently, an opportunity arose to work in a domiciliary setting as a carer and here, Elaine moved very quickly up the ladder to coordinator, then progressed to management level. Here, Elaine gained her RMA1 management qualification. Elaine is very proud that she built that service up to deliver 3500 hours per week, then after 15 years she decided it was time to move on.

Elaine started a position working on a project with a private company alongside Manchester City Council: Wythenshawe Regeneration team, which was backed by the European Social Fund. The idea was to create a care provider with a difference which would create jobs in the community, looking after people in the community. The project would give the carers shares in the company and create a sense of ownership. Not only did this help with staff retention, it greatly increased staff morale, and consequently, the project took off very quickly, delivering 5000 hours of good quality care in the community over the next 13 years.

One of Elaine’s career highlights was receiving the honour of being nominated in 2016 for the Regional Registered Manager of the Year Award with the Great British Care Awards, which she subsequently won for the Northwest. This accolade resulted in Elaine being nominated for and winning in the National Finals the following year.

Elaine joined Westwood Homecare in April 2018 as Operations Director and assisted us in completely revamping and relaunching the brand name. Since then, we have succeeded in becoming the largest provider for the NHS in the Manchester Area and are now moving into Stockport and Bolton, creating not only homecare services but a fully functional training academy simulating real life living environments. This unique academy will allow trainees to experience some of the risks that they will eventually face most working days, thus fully preparing them for their chosen career.  All of our training courses are all fully accredited and delivered by an accredited trainer. Elaine has moved up to Managing Director, who alongside the Financial Director and CEO oversee the running of the Company.

“Even after over 40 years in the care industry, my drive and passion to make a difference in people’s lives are still first and foremost. I truly have made a lifelong commitment to deliver excellent quality care and unique tailored care plans to all.”
